The Beauty in Boston

IMG_5463

With a view like this, who needs the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty? JK I’m a huge fan of other cities and like traveling in general. I digress.

I am lucky enough to intern at an office right around the corner from this magnificent sight. So, when I got to work early yesterday with my camera in hand, i thought, what better time to snap some pics and practice for my photo journalism class. These photographs are beyond amatuer but the scene is so beautiful, it’s kind of hard to take an ugly pic.

Back at it

Back to school. SO many freshman. As I sit in the student union doing some creeptastic people watching, while avoiding my already growing pile of homework, I realize that this is my third year in Boston. Three years in this beautiful city.

A good friend reminded me this morning of how much i’ve changed since coming to college. I am no longer the naive wide-eyed girl from the Florida-Georgia line. I’m a big city girl who survived heartbreak, time away from my family- yes my twister, a summer in New York and now diabetes (well that one’s still a work in progress). Everyone changes with time; when I look at my friends from high school I see the evidence of time. The friends that we keep, the friends that we make and the people that we meet all alter our personalities, perception and experiences in life.

I’m really lucky to have the people in my life that I do, especially here in Boston.

I digress. Anywho, side-note, look at dat view doe from my window. Thanks bean town. Here’s to a great year ladies and gents!

Just some of da crew

As I prepare to go back to Boston for my Junior year of college (Oh em gee, I cannot believe time is going by so quickly) I find all of my friends leaving for school while I relax in the Florida sun… alone. One downside about going to a school up north while most of my friends stayed below the Mason-Dixon-Line, remains the different breaks our schools plan.

Much like the Brooklyn Bridge, the structure of my life seems suspended between two paths carrying the weight of others, all while being held up by an array of narrow wires lofted precariously over the dirty Hudson river.

Dramatic, I know, but hey take me as I am.

I read once that life in your twenties serves as some of the most amazing and terrible times of a person’s life. On one end you have transience, living in different places by the month, leaving loved ones behind for a future that no one can tell. On the other end, you meet new people, change your place, learn from the world and learn about yourself.

Maybe life is full of bridges. Maybe most bridges aren’t one way, because one direction can always lead you home. I know that my life is half in Boston and half in Florida, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t have a foot in each place.

So, as my friends prepare to leave and I stay behind for a few more weeks, I hope you think of these next semesters apart as a sort of bridge. Remember that you can always come home, and that a path always exists towards someone you love (especially if it’s towards me in Boston). When I get homesick freezing my butt off in the frozen tundra that is the north-east, I plan on looking at this picture I took, reminding myself of where I can go, and that perhaps the beauty is in the journey and not the destination.

Ta Ta For Now to my friends from home, and my Boston loves, I’m coming for you- in 2 weeks. I need some R&R before seeing your beautiful faces.

Keep an eye out for some fashion posts next week!

I’m sorry, what did you say?

Although my summer in the city comes to an end as I travel back home to Florida, I leave behind some good times with some special peeps. I won’t get all emotional on you, because I totally could, but ew, like… feelings. Anyways, these aforementioned good times accompany memories that will last me a lifetime- if not at least until next summer. One of my favorite things about this summer in New York remains the awe-inspiring pick up lines that continue to make me giggle even when I’m sitting in my kitchen writing this post surrounded by friends who seem to be enthralled in this contagion-esque television series called The Strain.

Ok, down to business. These are just some of the ridiculous(ly awesome in some cases,) pickup lines i’ve heard over the last 3 months in various situations around New York City. Sorry if I come across bitchy or unappreciative, but i mean come on! Keep in mind i thoroughly enjoyed my evenings out and wouldn’t change a thang.

PSA: No boys were harmed in the making of this post, except maybe their egos.

1. “I want to hump you, and impregnate you.” No. Go away, this is not in the least bit okay to say aloud. I don’t care if you think this, I don’t care if you whisper it to a friend. However, if I can hear you utter this phrase, gtfo. Really. Not cool and not okay. Also, like I don’t know you, don’t even know your name yet. So likeeeee nuhuh.

2. “Would you rather have 1 horse-sized duck or 1000 duck sized horses?” I admire this one, but it’s totally over said. But, this did make me laugh and think, so kudos to you bro.

3. “I’m sorry, you just look so gorgeous I had to come across the room and say something.” Clichè, snooze-fest, but deeply appreciated and flattering. Also, somehow creepy of you to say. We all know that in order to check someone out you have to look at them, but something about knowing I’m being watched gives me the heeby-jeebies.

4. “There’s 3 of you and 3 of us, you do the math.” Very good! You can count, now take this medal and leave me alone. You’re 30 years old and wasted. No thanks buddy. There’s about to be none of us and 3 of you.

5. *Walks past bar* “Get in here!” No. Stop bossing me around please. Kay thanks bye.

6. Man walks up to me at a rooftop bar and points to the Bank of America building. “See that building over there? I can control the lights on it. Pick a color” He proceeds to change the color of the lights. This happened like 2 days ago and I am still mystified. I named the color, he changed the building to that color. It was amazing, cool and like yes I am impressed.

Hope you enjoyed some of the ridiculous situations from the summer. More posts to come soon! Feel free to request a post by commenting below!

Pump Pump Pump it Up

Sorry it’s taken me so long to post, I just finished up my summer internship and have been crazy busy.

So, today is the first day of the rest of my life. LOL- ok totally joking. Well, technically every day is the first day of the rest of your life, but alas, I digress. Today I started pump therapy (aka I started my insulin pump). I have mixed feelings, but mostly those of excitement. A pump means no more shooting-up in restaurants or in the park if I want a snack. No more painful syringes and bruises from shots gone awry.

Many people choose the insulin pump to treat their diabetes from the beginning. The idea took me a little extra time to accept; always having something in me, connected to me with tubes and adhesive loomed over my head like a grey cloud. Well, that cloud rolled in and I got through the rain, because ladies and gents I have that thing in me right now, and it feels pretty damn good to not have to accept my fate full of needles.

I will continue to care, until the cure.

Anywho, another more light-hearted post is on its way in the next few days, so stay tuned!

Stay beautiful

xoxo
